"The Constitution can't protect you if you don't protect it…" (and another quote)

There is a quote I saw that was attributed to Thomas Sowell.  I cannot verify whether he said it or not.  However, the quote still makes sense:

"The Constitution cannot protect you, if you don't protect the Constitution with your votes against anyone who violates it.  Those government officials who want more power are not going to stop unless they get stopped."

I have something I'd like to add to that:


Just because there's rules & laws doesn't mean that those in charge will follow them. And just because there's people who'll follow them doesn't mean they're the ones in charge.
